Viewer’s comments is my weekly roundup of YOUR questions! Let’s get right to it!

Real drums are out of our league.

I’m so glad that you wrote that! It inspired me to start a new series for the summer called Recording Metal Drums on a budget. We’re going to take a lower end kit and see just what we can get out of it. It’s going to be a multipart series including placing mics, tracking and mixing. This way you guys can break out of that mold and stop using samples!

We had two viewers this week ask questions about becoming an Audio Engineer. One of them is 45 and one of them is 14.

My opinion is that there’s no wrong time to start recording and making music. For the 14 year old who wrote in- he’s got time to learn before having to make the decision to spend tens of thousands of dollars on recording school!

With the resources you can find online today (Such as The Ultimate Rock Mixing Bundle) it’s easier than ever to learn how to record and mix from the comfort of your own home!

Honestly, do yourself a favor and check out The Ultimate Rock Mixing bundle if you haven’t already. It’s got 10 courses featuring tracks from Galaktikon, Motörhead and a ton more! The engineers take you through everything, including not only HOW they do things, but WHY they make those choices. You get real tracks to work on, which you can mix and use as part of your portfolio!

Seriously.
