Pitch Correction – Making Music Suck Since 1998

It’s Friday! That means it’s time for SMG Viewer’s Comments; my weekly show where I try to answer your comments and questions to the best of my ability!

Comment:“P.S. I don’t know how often you deal with this shit but I recently had a drummer come in with a broken bottom head on his snare and he swore it made it sound better. That drummer is now $100 short and no longer has a snare drum.”

I’m not sure I quite get the ending part of that statement, have I had drummers come in with broken heads and say it sounds better? – No, but I used to rehearse with a drummer who had his heads taped together with duck tape because he was too cheap. Then he bought new heads and I was like “look dude we’re going to the studio in a few weeks, don’t put them on until just before we go in”. So what does he do, he puts them on right away! Fucking drummers you just can’t reason with them.

Half the reason I got a very good studio kit was for exactly that sort of thing- so I won’t have to deal with broken cymbals, broken drum heads or any of that crap. If you’re running a home studio I highly recommend investing in a good drum set, I bought mine in 2001 and here we are 17 years later, I still have that same kit and it still sounds magnificent. It was definitely a good investment that paid for itself- so don’t trust the drummer, trust yourself.
