Been struggling recording a good amp sound… probably because I’m using a spider V. Do I HAVE to spend close to $2,000 on a good tube amp head to get a good heavy metal guitar sound?

Great question! It’s quite common.

Absolutely freakin’ not! You can start out with something like a Joyo Zombie sounds phenomenal. It’s a tube solid state hybrid. It’s like $200- that coupled with a Harley Benton cab ($180) will give you a really cool sound.

If you’ve got a few extra bucks to spend, get the Harley Benton Cab. It’s awesome! Checkout the shootout we did here.

My advice would be to look around for a used 6505 or a 5150 head. The 5150 will probably last you your entire life. They’re built like tans, they’re awesome, and they sound incredible. They typically run for around $700 used.
