How to Balance a Career and a Band

When it comes to balancing work and band, that is the motherfucker. As you know, I still have my day job. I still work full time, run the studio and the YouTube channel. My schedule is a bit different than when I was recording a lot bands! So let’s take a step back a few years!

I loved working afternoon shift but when I was recording bands 2 – 3 times a month, I’d switch to 2 weeks days and 2 weeks afternoons. You can’t track bands when you’re working afternoons because the rest of the world is pretty much on a day shift type schedule!

I’d track the bands when I was on day shift (weekends, week nights). And, when I was on afternoons, and the band wasn’t around, that’s when I’d do the editing and mixing. (the real work!!!)

Anyway, That’s how I balanced. There’s no cookie cutter, one size fits all solution for this problem. If being in a band, or being an engineer, or running a YouTube channel is something you really want to do, you’ll find a way.

Maybe find a job where you can shift or trade off with other workers. I’ve been there. It’s fucking brutal. I hope you pull through. I hope you make it!

Take comfort in knowing that a lot of very successful people started out in a similar place to where you are today.
